Yaakov Greenvurcel-לסרוונירג בקעי

Yaakov Greenvurcel, an award-winning graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art, Jerusalem, creates ritual objects in his studio in Jerusalem. Greenvurcel is probably one of the most prominent artists in his field. Greenvurcel's ritual objects breathe new life into ancient forms and at the same time each of them is designed in accordance with the Halachah (Jewish Law). Every creation is crafted to the highest finishing quality with unequaled attention to detail. Yaakov Greenvurcel was born in Poland in 1952 and came to Israel in 1957. In 1980 he graduated with honors from the Bezalel Academy of Art, Jerusalem. The same year he was awarded the first Shapiro Prize for Judaica, for his "Ever-Changing Menorah". Greenvurcel was chosen as one of the winners of the Art Quest 88, an art competition held in the U.S.A. In 1996, the year celebrated as the 3,000 anniversary of Jerusalem, he designed a Torah Crown especially for the International Judaica Design Competition. It was awarded an Honorable Mention including a monetary prize. Since 1980, he has been designing contemporary Jewish ceremonial art in his studio, located at Houtzot Hayotzer (Arts & Crafts Lane) in Jerusalem. Greenvurcel's works of art have been exhibited widely and are part of many well known private and public collections in Israel and abroad, including H.U.C. Skirball Museum, Los Angeles; H.U.C Skirball Museum, Cincinatti; Jewish Museum, New York; Joods Historisch Museum, Amsterdam; Maurice Spertus Museum, Chicago; North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh; Judisches Museum Wien, Vienna; Judisches Museum Franken, Furth; Ha'aretz Museum, Tel-Aviv. Yaakov Novogruder-רבורגובונ בקעי

Painter- Yaakov Novogroder was born in 1939 in Poland and came on aliya in 1957 . He started sketching on paper since childhood, always striving to translate his achievements in his own language of drawing into oil paintings. He first exhibited his works in oil in 1975, at the Rosenfeld Gallery in Tel-Aviv.
Additional one-man exhibitions:
1976 - Montreal 1977 Dusseldorf 1978 - Petah Tikva Museum 1979 - Petah Tikva Museum 1979 - Jurek Gallery, Ramat Hasharon 1980 - 13½ Gallery, Jaffa 1994 - Art Export, N.Y. 1996 - Belgium Nowogroder's paintings can be found in art galleries, museums and private collections in Israel and abroad. In his own way Yaakov Novogroder presents us with a series of symbols whose impact is breathtaking by reason of their topicality, inasmuch as they derive from experiences undergone by the artist in his youth during the war and the holocaust. Nowogroder's pictures look at first glance like stories from a fairy-tale world. Primarily responsible for this impression are the soft shades of which his color-scale is composed and also the pictorial symbol present in every one of his works, in the form of a tree-top which shelters the objects beneath it. His color-scale is taken from the nineteenth century's neo-romantic era, with its shades of ivory gradating, with every turn of the hand, into velvet browns and the brown-grayness of the centrally-positioned subject of the painting. The aforesaid pictorial symbol of the arching foliage of a colorful sapling - is achieved by supremely delicate precision-work in which sensitive fingers have touched brush to canvas, as if the artist were to say: I have a tale to tell. But the picture is not a fairy-tale at all, not at all a legend with which to enchant its beholders. Yaakov Nowogroder, a native of Poland, spent six years of his childhood wandering among the ruins of a terrible war, amid towns reduced to rubble, scarred human beings, lacerated landscapes and lost time. It is a known rule of literature as of art that each work contains autobiographical elements. This rule holds good for the work of Nowogroder, whose external, legendary motifs, are the attractive wrapping for the burden of harsh experiences concealed inside. His approach to art as a means of expression for his thinking, and his skill as a talented craftsman betoken a great future for Nowogroder.
