Uri Eliaz-זעילא ירוא

I work in the following mediums: Painting Drawing Sculpture Assemblage Painting: Oils on canvas, cardboard and plywood. Acrylics on canvas and cardboard. Drawing: Most drawings are on 12X18 paper, in ink and pencil. Sculpture: Ceramic material, works called “Teraphim”(household idols), as well as painted plates. Works called “Scarecrows – Idols” made of connected pieces of wood taken from various objects Sculpture made from scrap - iron. Assemblage A: Relief-like works made of various materials on wooden surfaces sometimes with added color. Assemblage B: Reliefs made from metal-aluminum parts, on thick plywood. Qualifications: Planning environmental sculpture in metal or stone. Planning murals – drawing and etching in plaster. (I have many plans for such projects) Past projects: Designing sets for the theatre and illustrating books. The first and foremost area of my work is painting. In this field I have explored and am still exploring many paths: The spiritual path, both religious and symbolic and in no way connected to a specific religion, connected to the idea of the icon as a concept – paintings including a figure/figures or none at all. The power of legend and folklore - symbolic, ethnically unconnected, the approach is one of longing. The world of the theatre and the stage, with theatrical mise-en scene such as imaginary, at times circus-like processions i.e. the world of the circus. Landscapes inspired by the land of Israel (there are no specific locations). Sometimes the landscapes become abstract. Animals, humans and environment – particularly flocks of sheep, deer and rooster. Windows Abstract geometric – a play of form and color. All these subjects are interrelated by many links. Exhibitions – Some twenty one-man shows. Over the past decade my sculpture has been shown in various museums and cultural centers in Israel, among them: The Museums of Herzliah, Teffen, Ashdod, Arad and in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem (The Youth Wing) There have been no exhibitions of my paintings in the past 25 years. A few pieces of sculpture in wood were made in the city of Degarmendere in Turkey, within the framework of a symposium, and they stand there still.
