Simon Slutzkin's biography in his own words I was born in 1961 and graduated an art college in Petersburg, Russia in 1980. Since 1990 I live and work in Israel. My meeting with the renown artist Andrei Simonov, who became afterwards my friend and teacher, I consider as the beginning of me becoming a painter. Through him I got acquainted with some representatives of the art movement "Hermitage" in Petersburg. This movement was established in early 70'S under the influence and ideas of Yacov Dlugach. The basis of those ideas was an analysis of compensation structures of the pictures of classical painters. Since 1983 I studied with Alexander Zaitzev and Sergei Daniel and visited the studio of Uri Gusev and Mark Tumin. But I would like to mark the very special influence of Vladimir Kagarlitzky (1937-1993). We used to come to his studio with our just finished pictures in order to receive his comments, which he gave willingly. In Jewish traditional books it is said "Choose your mentor and follow him". I consider myself lucky to found someone like Kagarlitzki to follow. The pictures presented here were painted both in Petersburg, Russia, and in Israel.
