Lea MAJARO-MINTZ In 1983 Lea Majaro-Mintz was awarded the Jerusalem Prize for Sculpture. The jury stated that "Her art incorporates social, human and personal values. The subject of feminism is treated in her work with sensitivity and originality. Her "woman" is not the one we look upon from the outside - her woman is one we feel from the inside." Actually, she was the first artist in Israel to emphasize a feminine outlook in the visual arts - one of the world pioneers of Women's Art. Lea Majaro-Mintz, an eight generation native of Israel, was born in the old city of Jerusalem. She studied art at the Jerusalem Bezalel Academy of Art, where she later taught "Form and Color". Her book on the subject was published as a textbook by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Four books were published on her art - the book "Conversations in Clay" won first prize for its outstanding design at the Jerusalem International Book Fair in 1981. The fourth book - "As Wrinkles Unfold" - is a series of collages created from the combination of sculptures she has created and appropriate glimpses of nature she has photographed. They deal with the last journey of man on earth. Her work has been exhibited with great success in galleries, in prestigious art centers in London and New York. Leon Azoulay was born in Morocco in 1945. After emigrating to Israel, he settled in Tsfat (Safed) and studied graphics and fine art. Azoulay became interested in Bible art early in his career. Living in the ancient town of Tsfat, birthplace of Jewish mysticism (the Kabbalah), inspired him in his search for a means of expressing his passion for painting and for the Bible. His art is a unique fusion of the two -- Azoulay's paintings depict scenes from the Old Testament blended with Biblical passages written in minute letters (micro calligraphy). His rendition of the Story Of Creation, for example, is composed of the entire book of Genesis in micro calligraphy, in a way that actually constructs the painting of the scene. Leon Azoulay has exhibited his work extensively. He has permanent exhibition of his paintings at his gallery in the Old City of Tsfat. He held one-man shows in Lille, France in 1990, in Montreal, canada, in 1993 and Boca Raton, Florida in 1995. In addition, he participate in numerous group shows, such as Northbrook, Illinois in 1992, 1993 and 1994, in Nanuet N.Y. in 1993, in Jerusalem, Israel in 1994, in New York in 1995, in Cleveland, Ohio in 1996 and 1997, in Miami Beach, Florida, in 1998 and in Toronto, Canada in 1998.
