Participated in many exhibitions and Biennales in Israel and abroad. Died 1986.

Ahiam (Shoshany)- (ינשוש ) םייח


Ahiam (Shoshany), Sculptor. b. 1916, Bet-Gan, Jordan Valley. Studies: Mikveh Israel; with sculptor, Zeev Ben Zvi. 1942 Joined “Alonim” Group. 1945 Began working in quarries at Castel, near Jerusalem. From 1947 lived in Paris, where he studied independently. He worked at quarries in France. Prizes: 1947 First Prize in international competition for a memorial symbolising the rebirth of the martyred town, Lidice; Neumann Prize, Paris; Israel Embassy Prize, Paris; City of Paris, Fine Art Prize; Cecil Lachner Prize, Paris;1953 International Prize for Sculpture in stone and basalt on biblical subjects (King David and Job).1960 Represented France at Exhibition for Art and Sculpture in Austria. He kept up his connection with Israel, participating in 1993 at the large exhibtion at the Open Museum, Tefen.

Teaching: 1975-78 Established and directed Print Workshop of Association of Painters and Sculptors, Tel Aviv; 1978-81 College of Visual Arts, Beersheba; from 1981 co-ordinator of Print Workshop, Art Teachers College, Ramat Hasharon; from 1984 co-ordinator of Plastic Arts department of Thelma Yellin High School, Tel Aviv. Prizes: Tamarind Institute Scholarship, New Mexico; 1987 Kolb Prize for Graphic Art, Tel Aviv Museum; 1977 Biennale for Graphic Art, Norway. 1961-65 Worked in Paris. At end of sixties began working in silk-screen printing. Belonged to Ten Plus Group. 1974 Joined the Burston Workshop for Lithography, Jerusalem.

Arieh Allweil. b. 1901, Galicia. Immigrated 1920. Studies: 1921-25 Art Academy, Vienna; Dresden Academy. Teaching: In Israel, art. Prizes: Received Dizengoff Prize twice; 1955 Turov Prize for Bible Illustrations. Published series of linoleum cuts of Israeli and Biblical subjects, also illustrated a Passover Haggada and large scale murals of Holocaust. From 1952 until his death lived in Tel Aviv and in Safed in summer. Died 1967, Safed.

Prizes: 1954 Unesco Prize. 1963 Israel Prize; 1992 Isracard Prize, Museum of Art, Tel Aviv. 1965 Lived in Paris and Jerusalem. 1954, 1968 Participated in Venice Biennale. Died 1992, Jerusalem.

Arikha Avigdor-רודגיבא אכירא


AVIGDOR ARIKHA was born in Bukovina (Romania) in 1929, drew his first portraits from life in childhood and continued in Nazi deportation from where he was rescued in March 1944 and brought to Palestine, to kibbutz Maaleh haHamisha. He was severely wounded in Israel’s War of Independence (January 1948). He studied art at Bezalel, Jerusalem (1946-1949) and at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris (1949-51); he later studied philosophy at the Sorbonne (in the mid fifties), before taking on art-history. In addition to his activities as a painter, draughtsman, etcher (pulling himself his prints, between 1970-75) Arikha has written numerous articles, mostly on art history as well as scholarly catalogues for exhibitions he curated at the Louvre, the Israel Museum, the Frick Collection, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others. He also lectured on art in various academic institutions, gave talks on radio and made a number of television films. Arikha lives mostly in Paris, partly in Jerusalem and has also resided in Stockholm, London and New York. Awards and honours: Gold Medal, Triennial, Milan, 1954; Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, Paris, 1978; Grand Prix des Arts de la Ville de Paris, Paris, 1987; Prix des Arts des Lettres et des Sciences, Fondation du Judaןsme franחais, Paris, 1989. Honorary degrees: Honorary Professor, National Academy of Fine Arts of China, Hangchow, 1995; Doctor Philosophiae. Honoris Causa, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, 1997

Aroch, Arieh. b. 1908, Harkov, Russia. Immigrated 1924. Studies: Bezalel, Jerusalem; 1934-35 in Paris with Leger. 1937 Designed stage scenery for Ohel and Habima Theatres, Tel Aviv. Painted together with Meirowitz in Zichron Yaakov. 1949-53 Worked in the Israel Diplomatic Corps in Moscow; 1956-59 Israeli Ambassador to Brazil; 1959-62 Israeli Ambassador to Sweden; 1963 Foreign Office, Jerusalem. Prize: 1971 Israel Prize. Died 1974.

Prizes: 1952 Herman Struck Prize; 1958 10th Anniversary Prize for Water Colours, Ramat Gan; 1961 Histadrut Prize; 1977 First Prize Haifa Municipality. From 1930 lived in Haifa. 1958 Participated in Venice Biennale. His works are in museums and collections in Isael and abroad, including the Metropolitan Museum, New York and Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, U.S.A.

Adi Itzik-קחצי ידע


Adi Itzik Born 1940 in Safed.
Was a member of Kibbutz Sha ar Hagolan. A pupil of Prof. Arie Margoushilski. Studied engraving in Paris with Johnny Friedander. Gave one-man shows under the title "Point versus Line". Took part in group exhibitions and art-in-nature projects all over Israel, and in the important museums, as well as many exhibitions abroad.

Azuz Haim-םייח זוזע


Azuz Haim , a renowned Israeli sculptor ,was born in Istanbul, Turkey . A self-taught artist,who began sculpting at the age of fourteen, Azuz is a member of the Painters & Sculptors Association of Israel.He lives in the Artist`s Quarter in Safed, where he maintains a studio/gallery and a permanent collection . His 16-foot sculpture "The Flower", is a focal point of Safed`s Cultural Center. "The Burning Bush", a 13-foot piece sculpted out of aluminum , adorns the city`s main art exhibit. Azuz's work has been exhibited at Yad Labanim in Tel-Aviv, the Petach-Tikva Museum and in various galleries in Israel. A 20-foot sculpture of bronze,stainless steel and marble, "Cactus", stands in one of the public buildings in Beer-Sheva. His work can also be found in private collections around the world, including the U.S, Canada, Maxico, Venezuela, Peru, Australia, South Africa and Europe. He has participated in Artexpo in New York since 1987.
